A little bit of information about myself:

I grew up in Cluj, Romania and started playing the french horn in 4'th grade at the “Sigismund Toduta” School of Music. After completing a Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance at the "Gh. Dima" Music Conservatory, I traveled to the United States in 2001 for the Brevard Summer Music Festival.  Prior to arriving to the US, I held the Principal Horn position with the Oradea Philharmonic Orchestra for two years, a job I won at age 19.  I then served as Associate Principal/Third Horn with the Romanian State Opera, in Cluj for two years. Through the years I have also collaborated with other major orchestras in Romania, resulting in numerous performances and international tours.

During my initial time in the US, I developed a deep admiration for the American school of brass playing. I accepted a full assistantship position from the University of Alabama and completed a Masters Degree there in Horn Performance in 2003.  Today I continue to work professionally as a freelance musician and have performed regularly for a number of years with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC, as well as appearances with the Baltimore, Atlanta, Richmond, Memphis, Utah and Edmonton Symphony Orchestras and other professional ensembles.

While in graduate school, brass instrument repair became a major interest. After gaining access to the tools needed, the natural ability to work on brass instruments quickly arose and colleagues soon came to entrust their instruments to me for repairs and customizations. I would later take a job as a repair technician in a music store's repair department in Phoenix, AZ where I had the privilege of deepening my knowledge on brass repair while working alongside repair technicians with extensive training and experience.

The Cantesanu Horns shop was opened in 2007, with the completion of the first Cantesanu horn coming later that year. Now, backed by years of experience I offer handcrafted horns, customizations and upgrades, a mouthpiece of own design as well well as repairs and maintenance services. I take pride in my career as a horn craftsman, striving for perfection and taking no shortcuts when it comes to the quality of my work. Consistency, honesty and clear communication take top priority.
